Our lesson today is about nouns in English, we will recognize the nouns of all types, forms and all details around them, that will greatly help us to build a linguistically correct sentence.
In general, the noun is a ward that indicates anything. The noun can reflect an animal, frozen, human, plant or even a place.
The noun in the sentence will not come in static site, but sometimes comes as subject and sometimes the other comes as objective.

Kinds of nouns
1-proper nouns
This type of nouns includes:
- People such as: (Ahmed-Jasmine -Sandy -Sara…..)
- Names of countries such as: (London –America-France-Egypt-…..)
- Language’s names such as: (French-Arabic-German-….)
- Works of art such as (names of Films, series and famous painting)
- Monuments such as: (pyramids and sphinx …..)
- Week’s names such as: (Friday-Sunday- …..)
- Month’s names such as: (February –March-December-……)
- Continent’s names such as: (Europe –Asia- Africa-….)
- Names of companies
- Holidays
🔼 Note that, these nouns must start with a capital letter whatever their location in the sentence for examples:
- Ramadan comes with joy and pleasure.
- Last summer, I went to Maldives.
- Sara and Aly go to cinema.
- All lovers go to the Eiffel tower.
🔼 These nouns are specific nouns, each of them express something special.
🔼 This type of nouns are uncountable
2-Common nouns
These nouns are used when talking in general that is, these nouns don’t belong to a particular thing, they don’t refer to a particular thing, and they are called to talk about everything.
🔼 Common nouns can be used to refer to an animal, frozen or anything.
🔼 If the common noun comes in the first sentence, it has to be the first letter is capital, but if it comes in the middle of the sentence, it doesn’t have to be the first letter is capital. On the contrary proper nouns must start with a capital letter in either case.
🔼 Common noun is accountable that is, it can come in singular or plural form, this noun may refer to one thing or several things.
For examples:
- My sister like cats.
- Gazelles run so fast.
- The boy learn his lesson.
- I love horses so much.
Now that we know the two types of nouns and explain common noun and proper noun, now it’s the turn to know the difference between them.
- Titanic movie is a wonderful romantic film.
This is a work of art, so it’s proper noun.
- The girl crossed the river.
And here we’re not going to talk about a particular river, and we’re talking about it in general, so it comes common noun.
The importance of nouns in the sentence
- Noun is consider whether it is proper or common, it is the important item in the sentence.
- It may come as subject in the sentence, which is actually the event the sentence is about, or comes as object and in this case it comes to complete the meaning in the sentence.
